Sales returns guide
A sales return handles returned goods and balances whether linked to a posted invoice or entered independently.
Choose the return mode
Use an invoice-linked return to inherit customer and prices, a standalone return with entered details, or combine both item modes.
- Linking is available only to a posted invoice.
- A linked line inherits its price and cannot be manually repriced.
Quantities and approval
The system ensures linked quantities do not exceed what remains returnable across non-cancelled returns, then routes the return for approval.
- Standalone lines have no invoice-derived quantity limit.
- Only a draft return can be edited or deleted.
Posting and cancellation
After approval, posting reverses revenue, receivables, and cost of sales and restores tracked stock. Cancelling a posted return reverses those effects.
- Approval is required before posting.
- Cancelling makes its linked quantities returnable again.
