Sales payments guide

A sales payment records money collected against a posted invoice and links it to the receiving account and any installment schedule.

Record the payment

Choose the invoice, method, amount, and receiving account, adding bank or check details when needed. Customer and branch come from the invoice.

  • Payments can be recorded only against posted invoices.
  • The amount cannot exceed the invoice balance.

Posting and allocation

Posting debits the receiving account, reduces receivables, and updates invoice paid, due, and status values. Installments are allocated oldest unpaid first.

  • Both partial and full settlement are supported.
  • Each installment status updates from its allocated amount.

Cancellation

Cancelling a posted payment reverses its accounting impact, restores the invoice balance, and deallocates installments newest paid first.

  • Only draft payments can be edited or deleted.
  • Invoice payment status is recalculated after cancellation.
